Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, salt, egg, and melted butter. Add the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll the dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut out donut shapes. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  6. Heat oil in a deep skillet to 375°F. Fry donuts for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  7. For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a bowl until smooth.
  8. Dip warm donuts into the glaze and place on a wire rack to set.
